The Aldous Family

Margret and Dick

Cathy Aldous relates the story of her mother and father’s involvement with the club

Dad raced from 1955 to 1984, always a Bemsee member and proudly wore the club badge on his jacket. His first ever win was in 1978.
Not sure how the breakdown job came about but we were asked by Bill Rose to bring our farm truck along to do the pick up truck in 1972. We only lived 5 miles from the circuit so it was convenient  for everyone. Story being father would practice in the morning go home at lunch do  a bit of combining and then return to race!
Mother then continued to do it for the next 25 years. She was presented with a Rose Bowl and father a trophy in 1979 by Steve Parrish for services to motorcycling. The money for the bowl was raised by the marshals.
Richard my brother and I both drove the pickup truck after they died. Richard also marshalled at Esses until he started to race on fathers Manx Norton very successfully, claiming Novice of the year with The Classic Club. He then went onto race modern machines for several years, had a break and came back to the classic scene, he still races 750 Rob North Triumph today.

The Classic Motor Cycle magazine wrote an article on Dick's racing life, which can be read HERE
